According to data from the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), in the United States, approximately 20.4 million students enrolled in postsecondary institutions in 2019. However, not all of these students take out student loans. The NCES reports that for the 2019-2020 academic year, around 10.8 million undergraduates received federal student loans.
