How many bitcoins will ever be created?

The maximum number of bitcoins that will ever be created is 21 million. This limit is hardcoded into the Bitcoin protocol and cannot be changed. Currently, as of September 2021, around 18.8 million bitcoins have been mined, with the remaining 2.2 million to be gradually released through mining rewards until approximately the year 2140.

The maximum supply of bitcoins that will ever be created is 21 million. This limit is hardcoded into the bitcoin protocol and is expected to be reached in the year 2140. After that point, no new bitcoins will be generated through the mining process.
