The maximum supply of ethereum is not capped. However, there is an annual issuance limit of approximately 18 million ether (ETH) as per the Ethereum Improvement Proposal (EIP) 1559 implemented in August 2021. This issuance limit may change in the future if there are any updates or changes to the Ethereum protocol.

The total supply of Ethereum is not capped, unlike Bitcoin. However, there is an annual limit on the issuance of new Ethereum called the "block reward." The block reward currently stands at 2 ETH, meaning that approximately 4.38 million ETH can be mined each year through the process of mining blocks. This issuance rate is subject to change as Ethereum transitions to a proof-of-stake consensus mechanism in the future.
