There are several places where you can check your 401(k) balance:
- Employer's retirement account website: Many employers provide an online portal where employees can access and manage their retirement accounts. Check with your employer's human resources department or look for information on your company's intranet to find the website.
- Retirement plan provider website: If your employer uses a third-party retirement plan provider for managing the 401(k) accounts, you can usually check your balance on their website. Examples of such providers include Fidelity, Vanguard, Charles Schwab, and TIAA.
- Mobile apps: Some retirement plan providers offer mobile apps that allow users to check their 401(k) balances conveniently on their smartphones or tablets. Download the app provided by your retirement plan provider and login with your account details.
- Paper statements: If you receive paper statements, your 401(k) balance will usually be listed on those statements. Review the latest statement sent to your home address.
- Contact the plan administrator: If you are unable to find the balance online or through any of the above methods, you can contact the plan administrator or the HR department of your employer for assistance. They will be able to provide you with the necessary information or guide you on how to check your 401(k) balance.
